Türkiye has expressed its continued readiness to facilitate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, as stated by Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy advisor to the Kremlin, during an event in Kazan. This announcement comes after discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, reaffirming Türkiye’s willingness to provide a venue for negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Despite recent Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian soil, which have complicated the chances of a direct meeting between President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Türkiye remains committed to diplomatic efforts. Since the outbreak of the war, Türkiye has adopted a neutral stance, maintaining open lines of communication with both Moscow and Kyiv. Previously, Türkiye hosted significant negotiations in Istanbul, which, although not yielding a conclusive agreement, marked an important diplomatic effort in fostering dialogue between the conflicting parties.
