South Korea’s women’s national football team has achieved its highest ranking in more than three years, climbing to 17th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings. This advancement comes on the heels of a successful performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where the team secured a bronze medal.
The South Korean team moved up two places from their previous position, marking a return to 17th place, a ranking they last held in June 2023. Within the Asian region, South Korea ranks fourth, following Japan in fifth, North Korea in 12th, and Australia in 15th. Meanwhile, China has dropped to 18th in the global standings.
The bronze-medal achievement was hard-fought, as South Korea triumphed over China with a 1-0 victory in the third-place match after falling to Japan 2-0 in the semifinals. This result marked South Korea’s first Asian Games bronze in eight years and its first victory over China in 11 years, highlighting a significant milestone for the team.
Globally, Spain continues to hold the top position in the FIFA rankings, followed by the United States, Germany, England, and Japan. The final FIFA Women’s World Rankings of the year are scheduled for release on December 7.
